Who Killed Hae Min Lee

Serial season 1 episode 6 ends with the story about Mrs. Lee, who was strangled by hand and left alone in Leakin’s park. A boy, who later grew up, went to prison, claimed that he murdered his love, and could have been locked away for life. It will conclude this analysis with a twist that makes Adnan Syed an innocent man who was wrongfully arrested, charged and incarcerated for the first-degree homicide of Hae Min Lee. After further research, we have analyzed court documents, interviews, and articles to find out more about the case. Mr. Syed does not bear responsibility for Mrs. Lee’s death. Jay wild is the only person who can be blamed for Mrs. Lee’s murder. Adnan Syed, a senior at Woodlawn High School aged seventeen, was also a student there. He was a senior at Woodlawn high school and a student of honor. He also played football, track, and was voted homecoming prince. Hae Min was his secret love, and she is the victim here. Both Mr. Syed’s and Mrs. Lee’s upbringing was strictly traditional. They were unable to get together because of their different religions and ethnicities. Hae’s diaries state that Mrs. Lee wrote in her diary about how they both loved eachother. In the following weeks, their relationship began to blossom. Syed invited Hae after the sports practice behind the school to the junior prom. Adnan, who had snuck away from school on April 27, was the prom prince and Stephanie was the prom queen. Hae’s diary entry from April 27, 1998 is written the same evening she leaves for home. She continues to say Hae Min Lee is the sweetest man. Tell me why. It bothered me a little, even though I was trying to be natural. Guess who joined me ten seconds after Stephanie did? Adnan! What’s the point of not falling in love? It was only after I kissed his lips that I completely fell in adore with him. I have been falling in love with him ever since. We have to keep our feelings secret. But love will always win out.

This doesn’t sound anything like an entry about someone who is capable of killing someone violently with bare hands. Many entries in her journal were about how he upset her, but most of all how much she loved him. There were many stories from friends about them being 17, in love with each other, fighting, breaking up and getting back together. Lee writes Hae Min Lee in her diary Friday, the 15th of May, 1998. He called me a devil a few times. He was joking. But it’s true in a way.

After 3 months, she wrote in her journal in July.

Haemin Lee: I can’t stop crying when I talk to him on the phone

Haemin Lee: “He said that his religion was life for him. He was a faithful Muslim, but fell in love and committed a grave sin. But he insisted that he will never leave me as he cannot imagine life without me. He said he would have to decide one day between me and his faith. He is my best friend and when he has to make a choice, I am going to let it be his decision. It makes me angry that I was the one who caused his sin. He said I shouldn’t worry about pulling him from his faith, but hello. It’s exactly what i’m doing. They were so in-love that it made me wonder if he did it out of revenge. Is it possible that he hated her secretly and wanted to murder her? It would be necessary to have someone else commit the crime. Adnan is framed by me for Hae Min Lees murder. In court documents it is clear that there are not many references to (Jay). Instead, he is mentioned a great deal. Jay’s story is full of discombobulation and carefully planned lies. Jay is an ingenious, resourceful liar. He lies even about insignificant and short things. He also lies about critical and vital things. Jay Wilds was interviewed by the detective for the first time.

“We left mall. I drove him to school. I dropped my son off in the back. He walked up to the class. He said he would call, but left his cellphone in my car. I went to Jenn’s place and waited until he called.”

He then tells him to the detective.

Detective: Now that you have a better understanding of his motives, you can leave the car.

Jay: “Yes”

What will happen if you arrive at Edmondson Avenue 20 minutes after arriving?

Jay:” Um I drove… I followed him to…. I drove with him and followed into …”

“Do you stop your car and talk to him when you reach Edmondson Avenue?”

Jay: “Uh-huh, yeah.”

Adnan’s response was interesting because his previous statement that the story of Edmondson Avenue is false was changed to Jay pulling into Best Buy and seeing Adnan in the phone booth at the edge, wearing red gloves. Adnan signaled Jay to go with him to the corner of the side lot that was farthest from the building where Jay saw Hae parked. He then stated in his first interview.

Jay: “I noticed Hae was missing from his group. I parked beside him. He asked that I get out of my car. I get up from the car.

Adnan : “Am I ready to do this?”

Jay: “Ready for what?”

Adnan, he has taken the keys. He opens his trunk. Hae has blue lips and is tucked away in the trunk. She’s dead. He then says:

Jay Wilds tells us: “I drove…I walked with him to …. I followed Adnan into …” The story he told was different. He got out of the vehicle and Adnan went to the truck. This is not what he said in his other story. The detective continues his questions.

Detective “Do You Get Out of Your Car? . . And talk to him?”

Jay replies with “Uh-huh, yeah.”

Detective:

Jay: We got out. He’s wearing red gloves.

Jay becomes more nervous. He forgets Adnan was allegedly the one who opened the truck. Instead, he starts mentioning his red gloves. Stating

Jay: They’re like leather with wool palms, and that’s what sparked the question, “what’s with you wearing gloves?” And then, he said, “I’m so sorry, I’m doing it!” You don’t believe me.

As you will see, he alters his statement at least three times. The detective then continues:

Detective: We spoke for around 45 minutes. Did you provide the same information during your first interview?

Jay says, “No”

Detective “During the interview, I noticed a number of contradictions.”

Jay: “Yes.”

Detective “And I’m not going to cover all of them, but it seems like you have disassociated from your own statements in the interview. Why?

Jay: “Scared.”

Jay Wilds’s case is about to start getting a bit touchy when he declares

Jay: She was told by me that I had seen the body of the woman in the car’s trunk. Adnan requested that I help him bury the woman, but I refused. “I picked him back up and took him somewhere else.”

Then on later states

Detective: “Who has done the most digging?”

Jay: “Uh–it was”

Detective:

Jay:” Yeah.”

Detective:

Jay: “I’m not sure I would say that. But yeah.”

The detective agreed.

Jay Wild’s statement that he will keep pointing out evidence to Jay Wild is a good example.

Detective: “Did he seem to have been there before?”

Jay: “Possibly.”

The detective switches the roles and then acts

Detective: “Did it seem to you that he was familiar with the area?”

Jay: “Yes.”

Detective: “Why?”

Jay: “Why?” Because he could tell that I heard a noise, so I looked and there was an inaudible creek behind me.

Jay Wilds answers Yes !!!! Jay has stated earlier that the detective told him.

Detective: “So You Didn’t Trust Any Police?”

Jay: “I didn’t. No. I don’t- In my head, I do not think of calling the police. This never occurs to me. I would not say “let’s get the police.” I could have been shot at.

Jay says later

Jay: “I am sure that if I reported him for killing Hae he would not hesitate to arrest me for drug trafficking.”

To the extent that information was false, misleading, and infiltrated. Jay is too knowledgeable to be innocent. He knows far too many details. Here’s an example of Jay knowing too much.

Detective: “What happened with her shoes?”

Jay: He said to me, “He left them in his car.”

Detective: “He said he left the items in the car?”

Jay: “Uh huh.”

Jenn states in her interview that the two were not close friends. In Mr.Wilds’s, he does not state that he had asked Adnan about the murder. Jenn claims in her interviews that they weren’t the best of buddies and Mr. Wilds does not state that he has asked Adnan anything about the murder!!! Why did you do it? Why do we do this? How did she die? How long will it be before you bury her? Jay Wilds showed no curiosity about this entire story. If you listen carefully to the entire interview, Mr. Wilds is a mind-reader because he doesn’t say that Adnan told him this.

Jay: “And um, he figured to keep it on the strip as it was already hot. He would just inaudible. And ah… he did not like that so we drove to the other side of town off Route 40 and Edmondson Avenue.

Detective: What happens when he parks there?

Jay: He moved it. He didn’t want to be in that place, so he chose another. He moved it to a second location, then got out of the car and pretended to be carrying her wallet and purse.

This evidence proves that Jay Wilds lied and changed many of his stories. The facts are that there are many other counts not listed here.
